Jurgen Klopp press conference

Super Cup Win

“It felt good, much better than we thought before the game.

“After 120 minutes, investing all we did in the game, it makes it even more worth it. I can really imagine how Chelsea must have felt.”

“We go home with the good feeling. We came back yesterday and had a little time to analyse Southampton.”

Final Experience

“Winning things is much better than losing them, that is true.

“We are now more experienced in finals.

“Normally the result is the result of the performance, which is true.

“It all helps for the future if we play a final again, but that is all.

“We have a winning approach. I usually believe the result is the result of the performance and that is true but it depends on the performance.

“You have to be clinical in the right moments and solid.”

Adrian Knock

Klopp: “I don’t understand why in the world of social media when we are all together, a supporter jumped over something and kicked [Adrian’s] ankle. It is swollen but we have to see.

“Apart from that it was a brilliant night for him.”

Fixture Congestion

“We trained for two hours or so and my plan when I heard about the fixtures was to win on Wednesday and on Saturday and speak about it after.

“If you speak about it before the game it sounds like excuses. Was it right we played Friday and Chelsea Sunday? No but we have no power.”

Andy Lonergan Ready

“We need to think about Saturday to find a way to win the game.

“Andy Lonergan is in training with Kelleher and we have them if we have to make a decision.

“Adrian was a week before, Lonergan has trained with us. Kelleher has potential but is not 100% yet. We will see.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain Assessed

“It was positive for Oxlade-Chamberlain. We all know the potential he has and he can much more of an impact. That is normal.

“He needs to get used to all the intensity and this stuff. He has not played that position much so that is my fault and I said that.”

Turnaround and Recovery

“I don’t want to talk about [the short turnaround], It sounds like we make excuses. Southampton lost 3-0 against Burnley who are full of power.

“Saints are strong side and we had enough time to analyse them. We saw two pre-season games and we have all the info we need.”

Southampton Tough

“Last year was tough for us there. The analysis was tricky last season and we don’t know 100% what they will do.

“It’s early on and we all have the same chances. We all have the same job to do.”

Bobby and Mo

“[Mane’s sub] was a clear decision based on responsibility. It is great for us that he is back. I will see the players in an hour or so and we have to make decisions again.

“Bobby has that extra class and Mo has been incredible as well.”

Defensive Improvements

“If you compare us to August last year, it’s not that big a difference.

“The thing is they had two goals that were offside and there are no whistles. You see that it is two yards offside so that is good defending.

“We know we have to improve a couple of things defensively.”

Finding Ourselves

“We have to find ourselves in our best defensive part. We have to find a way to win those games and that is what we do. We played City – the best team – and Chelsea who are still a great team, Norwich, we scored 4 and didn’t react like we wish, that is normal.”

Adrian Injury

“We love our fans, no doubt but if they could stop doing that. We played v City someone ran on the pitch Streaker? Norwich, someone as well. It’s not funny. Like the girl in the CL final, she made money. What can we do?”

Adrian Hope

“If the person cannot stop himself then the fans around him must. It is not funny. Wow! How can something like this happen?

“Adrian won’t go for a scan. We wait for the swelling to go down. The flight didn’t help but I saw him now, it looks better and make a decision.”

Keita Timescale

Jurgen Klopp says he doesn’t know when Naby Keita will return to action at Liverpool.

High Defensive Line

“We don’t defend higher than we did before. We use the situations.

“Using the offside line is always part of defending.

“Chelsea scored twice after offside situations. That would have been offside in the good old times.

“We know VAR is in there now so now each offside decision will be settled.

“Using offside line is a big part of defending. As long as it is there we have to use it.

“We don’t defend ten yards higher, that’s not how it is.”

Dejan Lovren Negotiations End

Liverpool have ended negotiations with Roma for Dejan Lovren.

Reports today claimed the defender had agreed personal terms with the Italian outfit.

The Reds, however, have turned down an initial loan move.

Solskjaer insists Sanchez still has role to play for Man Utd despite transfer talk.

“Alexis is such a professional and he comes in working every single day, really hard,” said Solskjaer.

“He wants to be a part of this and of course, these stories he’s been put in the reserves – of course he hasn’t.

“He’s part of our squad and he’s a really good player. He’s had three weeks now, so he’s a few weeks behind the rest, but close to being part of it

“We don’t have the biggest forward line in numbers, so Alexis might end up playing a lot more games than you expect, because we expect him to come good at this club – he’s quality.

“We’ve had a behind closed doors game and he’s training. He’s doing a little bit extra and he’ll be gradually integrated into more and more playing time.

“But we’ll have more behind closed doors games, because with one game a week now it’s hard to keep everyone ticking. We’re arranging a few of them.”

Guardiola claims Tottenham are the second best team in Europe.

“Since I came here to England, every season they were a real contender.

“The first season I was here they finished second. The last two seasons they didn’t win it, but always they were tough, tough games.”

Asked if Sterling was now the Premier League’s most in-form player, Guardiola said: “There are many and he is one.

“Look at the top six teams and you will find many, many players, incredibly good players. We have many of them here.

“I didn’t see the other games but Raheem’s playing so good from the beginning, so clinical, but we want more, everyone wants more, and it was only the first Premier League game of the season.”

Fernandinho could return for City in Saturday’s game having had an extended break due to his participation in the Copa America, while Sergio Aguero could also earn a recall having been benched for City’s opening game against West Ham.

Giovani Lo Celso could make his debut for Spurs following his first full week’s training with the club.

Leonardo: There are negotiations for Neymar but nothing has advanced.

It’s widely expected that the Brazilian will leave the Parc des Princes this summer to join either Barcelona or Real Madrid, but all may not be moving along as it seemed to be.

“There are negotiations with clubs, as everyone knows,” Leonardo told RMC Sport.
“But nothing has advanced.”

The PSG fans made their feelings towards Neymar clear beyond doubt in their Ligue 1 opener, in which he didn’t play as the club sought to protect him, but the sporting director believes that he means well even if his actions don’t always suggest as much.

“He’s made mistakes,” Leonardoacknowledged.
“I didn’t know him, but I’m getting to know him as the days go by and, honestly, I think he’s a good guy.

“He has a good background and he’s an amazing player on the pitch.”

PSG have rejected offers for Neymar from Barcelona AND Real Madrid.

Philippe Coutinho & Ivan Rakitic to PSG❌

Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez to PSG❌

Barcelona offered 100m euros (£92.4m) plus Philippe Coutinho.

Ivan Rakitic was also discussed with the French club as part of the deal for the 27-year-old Brazil international.

Real Madrid also put forward a deal that includes money as well as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.

PSG asked for Vinicius Junior but Real did not put his name in the frame.

Neither bid has been accepted, but it is thought PSG would prefer to sell to Real Madrid.

Rivaldo: Neymar joining Real Madrid wouldn’t be a betrayal.

“If Zinedine Zidane signs Neymar for Real Madrid, I won’t see it as a betrayal,” RIvaldo explained in an interview with Betfair.

“Neymar left Barcelona to sign for PSG and now could fly to Real Madrid.

“It’s not the same as if he had left Barcelona for Real Madrid.

“He must also be professional, but I bet that if he has the chance to get back to a place where he was happy before, and where he knows most of the players, he would love to return to Barcelona.

“But that depends on the offer Barcelona could make for him.

“PSG won’t accept a lesser offer from Barcelona just because Neymar prefers to go there.

“They don’t want to lose money and will obviously accept the best offer available.”

Vinicius Junior already appears to have fallen down the pecking order at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu under Zidane and, while many people believe Neymar’s arrival would further accentuate that, Rivaldo isn’t so sure that it would be a bad thing for the teenager.

“Some people argue that Vinicius will lose his place in the Real Madrid squad if Neymar arrives, but I don’t see it that way,” he said.

“Any young player would learn a lot from playing with Neymar and it could help the young Brazilian’s career.

“It doesn’t make sense for Vincius to consider moving to another club to play more often.

“Instead, he must continue working and learning each day, waiting for opportunities to prove his value.”
